An agreement was stipulated between the University of Messina and the general management of the ASP of Ragusa to carry out a research project for the design and programming of new socio-health intervention models, useful for improving the conditions of vulnerable patients with varying degrees of neurological and mental disabilities.
Unime and ASP have agreed to adopt a therapeutic and educational approach of "Assisted Interventions with Animals", as a complementary model to traditional health models of prevention and treatment, in order to guarantee the highest possible quality of life for patients affected by dementia or neuro frailty. This agreement is based on the growing interest of the scientific and medical community to utilize treatments aimed at ensuring the recovery of the global well-being of the patient, through co-therapeutic or coeducational activities involving animals (dog, cat, rabbit, horse and donkey).
