SGroup - Universities in Europe is welcoming applications for the fourth edition of its PhD CUP, a training and competition initiative that focus on the development of academic speaking and the enhancement of public presentation skills.

As it happened in previous editions, the training will be conducted in two days. Dates will be confirmed very soon.

Once the training is completed, PhD Students will be asked to present a 3-minutes thesis pitch that shall be submitted for a competition (two rounds).

After the first round of selection, the Top 5 PhD Candidates will be invited by their home institutions to participate in the SGroup Annual Meetings and General Assembly hosted by the University of Szeged, in Hungary, on the 17th of October 2025.

The final selection will be on site, during the General Assembly, and the selected PhD Candidate will be awarded an SGroup grant to conduct studies and research in an institution of their choice anywhere in the world (SGroup grant: 1.000€)

What is the SGroup PhD Cup?

The PhD Cup consists of:

  • A video submission round, where participants will compete by presenting their research concisely and the top 10 will be selected.
  • A live final in Szeged, Hungary, where the top five finalists will be funded by their own institution to present their pitch before the SGroup General Assembly.
  • The winner will receive a PhD Mobility Grant of up to €1,000 awarded by SGroup to support research abroad at an institution of their choice.
