The University of Messina participated in the "University Corridors for Refugees" project in 2021 with 23 other Italian universities. The project is now in its third year and offers refugees residing in Ethiopia the opportunity to arrive in Italy in a regular and safe way to pursue their studies. The project goes along with the European Commission indications in the new Pact on Migration and Asylum of 23 September 2020, in which Member States are invited to create new entry and protection paths for refugee in the areas of study and work. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, UNHCR, UN Refugee Agency, Italian Caritas, Waldensian Diaconia, Centro Astalli and Gandhi Charity all collaborate in this project.
