The University of Messina has organized thematic courses and seminars related to sex education for the local community. Participants in several events include the Equal Opportunity Office, (University Single Guarantee Committee-CUG) whose purpose is to protect against discrimination and defend the rights of employees and students.  It promotes equal opportunities for all members of the university community (professors, administrative staff, students, staff with atypical contracts), and endeavours to prevent and combat all forms of discrimination, direct and indirect, which may result from the risk factors defined by EU legislation (age, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, disability and language).
