Free sexual health care for students

The University of Messina has organized thematic courses and seminars related to sexual education for the local community. Several projects, suitable as well for secondary schools, were organized by the research center CERIP. The center is specialized in research and psychological support. Furthermore, several interdisciplinary seminars have been organized.

The University of Messina has organized thematic courses and seminars related to sexual education for the local community during the academic years 2018-19 and 2019-20. The main actor of these activities has been the Center for Research and psychological intervention, CERIP.  The Center’s efforts are dedicated to the advancement of scientific knowledge in psychological issues and the development of a state-of-art practices in psychological consultation. Through this Center, the University of Messina has laid the foundation to sign several partnership agreement with local high schools. These agreements have committed the two parties to develop joint actions to raise awareness and inform public opinion, experts, teachers, families and public and private institutions on sexual education. The joint actions may include, but are not limited to, conferences, seminars, study days, didactic activities, experiential workshops aimed at adolescents, families and adults.

The University of Messina has planned various activities intended to draw attention to the problem of protecting the dignity of women and men in the workplace and study environment.  This includes informing managers, unions, workers, and students of the University of Messina about the present legislation dealing with this issue and increasing awareness of current laws.
In addition, it has established a consultant position “Harassment Advisor” which provides advice and assistance to victims of sexual or psychological harassment or discrimination.  The special Harassment Advisor position provides advice, assistance, case development and solutions for those who are subjected to sexual, moral or discriminatory harassment.

A webinar event was organized by the Department of Law and the Journal of Church and State Special Issue (Volume 62/1 2020, Oxford University Press, Class A peer review) on "Catholic Clerical Sexual Abuse". It was moderated by Prof. Angela C. Carmella of the Law Department of Seton Hall University of New Jersey.
