The University of Messina aims to improve the quality of services related to health and well-being. For this reason, during the year 2020, it signed a series of collaborations both nationally and internationally. An example is the agreement signed with the Gaslini institute of Genoa and the Italian pediatric hospitals association (AOPI) to implement innovations and services at the AOU Messina Pediatric Center of Excellence. Another collaboration between Italy and China with support from internationally renowned companies has produced new programs to improve nutrition in pediatric patients with cerebral palsy.
Finally, there is an agreement between the Italian association RETT-ONLUS and the CERIP (University Center for Research and Psychological Intervention) to work towards improving the quality of life for Rett Syndrome patients.
The aforementioned agreements will also contribute to improving the skills of our doctors and help to minimize the phenomenon of health migration.
As part of the scientific collaboration between Italy and China, a pilot project was launched led by the Department of Medical and Surgical Pediatric Sciences of the University of Messina, with the support of Nestlè Health Science, a global company based in Switzerland, specialized in health. The study aims to create Chinese guidelines for the management of nutrition in pediatric patients with cerebral palsy. The study will be developed in two phases: the retrospective phase, in which the Italian and European best practices in the management of pediatric patients with cerebral palsy are illustrated followed by prospective phase in which specific nutrition methods will be promoted for the needs of young patients. The publication of the consensus paper is expected in the first part of 2021, where the first results of the Italy-China research project will be highlighted.
Objectives have been set by CERIP (Center for Research and Psychological Intervention of the University of Messina) for the promotion and implementation of initiatives aimed at research and psychological intervention for individuals in all life stages. This is in collaboration with the Italian RETT-ONLUS Association to give greater opportunities to patients with RETT syndrome. The two organizations intend to develop new and innovative support projects and specialist intervention procedures, implementing specific actions to assist people with RETT Syndrome in adaptation and improvement of their quality of life.
Meetings were held in 2020 with the "G. Martino "of Messina, the G. Gaslini Institute of Genoa and the AOPI (Association of Italian Pediatric Hospitals) with the aim of making the pediatric center of Messina a reference point for high specialty pediatric assistance for the area, especially in Sicily and Calabria. The AOPI promotes the cultural, scientific and managerial development of care facilities specifically dedicated to children of all developmental stages.
